New! CWB Introduces Chip Debit Cards
At Canadian Western Bank (CWB), we work hard to make your banking services safe, reliable and convenient. In keeping with this commitment CWB launched a new debit card embedded with chip technology in March 2011. As part of this launch all existing non-chip debit cards have been deactivated as of September 20th, 2011.
Your new chip debit card is part of a nationwide initiative by all Canadian financial institutions, payment systems and merchants to reduce debit card fraud and make the current, secure payment system even more secure.
A chip debit card provides all of the same features you currently enjoy with some added benefits.
- Your new chip debit card will be embedded with a microchip that provides increased protection against debit card skimming and counterfeiting.
- Chip debit cards encrypt all information stored on them, increasing your safety when completing a transaction.
- When you perform a transaction, your chip debit card never leaves your sight. Often, it will never leave your possession.
- Enjoy increased convenience when travelling. Your new chip debit card has Exchange Network, Interac, Cirrus and Maestro applications, which means you can withdraw money and perform Direct Payment purchases around the world!
You will notice that your card has both a magnetic stripe and a chip. This will allow you to use your new card at all retailers and merchants, as they have until 2015 to convert their Direct Payment machines to support chip debit cards.
