Our People, Passion and Purpose: Debjani Saha

When education opens a variety of doors for your future career path, how do you decide which one to walk through? Debjani chose CWB for the strong commitment to values and hasn’t looked back since.

Immigrating to Canada close to a decade ago with MBA in hand, Debjani Saha looked no further than the world of finance to launch her career. After several years of honing her craft in roles at various commercial and multinational banks, Debjani found herself a home at CWB, rising to the position of Manager, Systems and Process. What drew her to CWB, Debjani explains, were the values that coursed throughout the organization. “Primarily, I look for integrity, honesty and authenticity in an employer,” she adds. “And when I hear the CWB leadership team talk about those same values and put them into practice in their day-to-day business, I feel even more committed and engaged knowing they’re aligned with my own.”

Those shared values, coupled with her unyielding drive and passion for systems, processes and operations, has led to Debjani receiving CWB’s Pillar of Excellence Award, one of the highest personal accolades available to CWB team members. “Being passionate about my role has helped me identify opportunities for going above and beyond in helping to streamline processes and support greater efficiency within the organization,” says Debjani.
“I’m committed to always find solutions to help make things better wherever I can.”

Power in the people

Debjani credits her supportive leadership team and colleagues as continued sources of inspiration, attributing them in helping her achieve the success she’s found in her role. She also appreciates how approachable and open leadership are to new ideas, as well as the breadth of talented individuals working throughout the organization.

“During my journey with CWB, I have received excellent mentorship and guidance from my leaders and team,” says Debjani. “In addition, the bank employs a diverse cross-section of people from many backgrounds — diversity greatly strengthens the team because it means that each individual person brings something unique to the group.”

The personal side of professional growth

Debjani also appreciates how CWB opens up new opportunities for employees to stretch their skills professionally with continuous, career-long learning and development. And she’s been able to apply some of those learning to her own personal life. “Being a busy mom of two young children, I’ve use some of the skillsets I learned through job within family life — time management, communication, critical thinking and a systems approach,” Debjani explains.
